Institutions need to adopt a looser approach to the way that they operate if they are to survive and thrive in our highly complex world. Agility, flexibility and the ability to improvise will become the defining characteristics of successful businesses, whilst those institutions that rely on tight thinking – the imposition of rules, fixed processes, hierarchical structures – and are over dependent on long-term strategic planning, will struggle.
