I have extensive experience as a non-executive director. I was a Board Director of Sport England and Commonwealth Games England and am currently a trustee of the Speakers Trust, which does remarkable work training young people (many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds) in public speaking. This experience has given me a good grounding in the core trustee responsibilities (corporate governance, financial controls, safeguarding etc.) but more importantly an understanding of how non-executives can support a relatively small executive team.
My non-executive roles have typically maximised the value of my marketing expertise, although I have also been heavily involved in corporate governance, crisis management, senior executive recruitment and commercial issues.
I work (on a pro bono basis) with a range of non-commercial and charitable organisations. Over the years these have included The Courtauld (one of the world’s leading arts institutions), SAVE Britain’s Heritage and Bags of Taste.
